I am always looking around on different classified pages just to look at birds or cages for sale. Just a habit really I guess and I love to see all the different birdies for sale! :)
But, I have been noticing ALOT of these ads http://buyit.kentucky.com/findit/pets/adoption_for_sale/O596ee00.htm
Eggs FOR SALE!
Do people actually buy these? Have you guys ever heard of anyone doing it? Everytime I see these ads I am just wondering if its just another scandal that we are seeing so much of today. Just curious I guess. I figured this would be unsafe..???? or maybe Im just blind and it happens all the time lol..
Hopefully if it does happen then they screen their buyers thouroughly making sure they know how to take care of the eggs-handfeeding or atleast have a pair that will take in these eggs.

Smart people don't! This is just another for money thing and it should never been done, at least not in my humble opinion! When I first got into breeding, I did buy a few lovebird eggs that were in the process of pipping. The only reason I even considered it is because I did not care for the method of handfeeding the breeder used when he pulled his babies. He would tube feed and put the leftover formula in the frig for the next feeding..... I think not!!! He only lived about 1.5 hrs away from me so I bought a few ready to hatch eggs and put them under my own hens. Never lost a baby and I always knew what I was getting because I saw which nestboxes the eggs came from. The breeder had great birds but his husbandry methods left a lot to be desired!

Personally, I think it's a terrible thing but it does happen.

I can't imagine purchasing parrot eggs....at the price some of these breeds run, to purchase eggs would be a sore disappointment if you didn't know how to incubate, feed, and care for such young babies...and a wasteful loss of beautiful featherlings.

I have ordered chicken eggs. They were safely packaged and insured and delivered to my local post office for me to retreive. With poultry, the fertility of the eggs diminishes within one week, so delivery is required within a few days of laying. These babies hatch fully ready to feed themselves and are already down covered...not like our naked blind parrot babies. I have successfully incubated and hatched chicken, turkey and ducks for the ranch.

I ran across another ad last night to where you could get any kind of larger parrot egg (grey, macaw, etc..) for $35ea and then $120 shipped....Ive kept seeing these ads everywhere I go and was just wondering. I didnt figure it was the responcible thing to do on the seller(s) or buyer(s) part. I woudl never consider doing it myself unless, maybe if I was doing what you did Kathryn. Chickens sound like they come a little bit more prepared then day 1 parrot babies! Thanks for the info!! :)
