It's been 6 weeks since my mom moved into assisted living and her dog moved in with me. Mom was extremely underweight and the dog was very overweight.

The good news is that my mother has gained 15 pounds in 6 weeks. I couldn't be happier with her progress.

The bad news is that her dog has lost exactly 1/2 pound in 6 weeks of portion control, no people food, and regular exercise. The vet said to cut back on her portions a bit more, put her on diet dog food, and bring her back in a month for another weigh in. If she hasn't lost any more weight by then, he wants to see her.

For whatever it's worth, she is MUCH more energetic now that she's eating properly...

Sounds like things are going your way with mom...and a little slower with pup. But keep up the good monitoring!

Jennifer,

That weight is easier to put on that to get off. I know chubby dog will slim down with you taking care of her. Are you walking her? Yeah, yeah, I'm not too good at walking the dog either:rolleyes:

One of my rottweilers was really overweight and she only got 2 cups of food per day until she lost weight. But once she did you could tell she was relieved to be rid of it! Walks were so much easier!

Hubby drags that poor dog for a walk 2-3 times a day!

Jennifer, having an over-weight dog myself I know how hard it is to get even a half pound off! My vet was very pleased when we were able to get a pound and a half off Chelsea and that took several months. I think you're doing great!

I'm so happy to hear that things are going well with your mom. :)
