Are they common in lovebirds? I just lost my lovebird due to a tumor, and she was only 3 1/2. I know they can live for up to 20 years, so I was just wondering how common this in lovebirds. :(

That's an interesting question...

I used to have African pygmy hedgehogs. The started to become popular in the American pet trade in the mid-nineties. Sadly, as is the case with many animals in the pet store, the first few generations were overbred. Nowadays, you see many instances of cancers that may be linked to unscrupulous breeding practices.

That said, I don't know if lovies are more prone to tumors or not. Do you know what type of tumor your wee bird had?
