:x Cabbage :x
:x Carrots :x
:x Onions :x
:x Mystery meat, over priced IMO and weird :x
:D Red Potatoes :D

Okay, so can you guess that I don't cook. I'm boiling according to the instructions I got from boyfriend. The apt is filled with a musky cabbage odor... similar to sweaty gym shoes left in a gymbag in a car trunk over three weeks.

My question is... does boiling something in a non-telflon pot pose any health risk if my lovie is in a back bedroom? It stinks up the entire apt. I'm pretty sure my neighbors are contimplating calling for an ambulance... the stentch is amazingly strong...

M'mmmmmmm; I'll be over for dinner... :D

Cabbage smell won't hurt your fids, or mine would be dead several times over. Eat with confidence!

The key to cooking corned beef is not to let it come to a boil! You let it simmer gently until cooked, otherwise the meat can be very tough.......

 Thanks, Linda...

I did boil it... for at least 30 minutes!! Ya think this'll make it too tough to chew?
Eric, you're invited to dinner! You can have my share! :lol I was planning to fake eating the abomination I have simmering on the stove. I never really liked cabbage... :x

The way my wife does Corned Beef and Cabbage is that she slow-cooks the corned beef all day in a crock-pot, and then in the evening she does the vegatables on the stove-top and adds the corned beef and juices for the last 10 to 15 minutes or so while the veggies are simmering. Makes the best stuff you've ever had. There's no way you could taste it and NOT love cabbage... /hungry

Corned beef is one thing I miss since turning veggie. I have been able to find mostly acceptable alternatives for almost everything else, but not corned beef. There's no substitute!

OOOOOOhhhhhh! Corned beef and home canned saurkraut!! HHMMMMMHMMMGood!. That's one of the first meals when we bring the kraut out of the crock after six weeks of brining! Oh man, I'm hungry!

I've never much enjoyed corned beef or cabbage. The only thing I miss eating since becoming a vegetarian is chicken.

I use stainless steel pots for cooking. And although my birds are in a closed room, I don't think there is any harm to them cooking this way, unless they were right near the kitchen. There are no teflon fumes, so you should be safe.

Thought you'd like to hear 'bout how dinner was...
Bf came home and I only admitted to letting the beef boil for twenty minutes ( actually, I think it was more like an hour... :p ) but he took a bite and laughed. "No way that was ONLY 20 minutes, Amanda" lol

It wasn't too tough, and I liked the meaty/red potatoe parts. I tried to give the cabbage/carrots to Lola the dog... she had bad gas all last night 'cause the cabbage. Which I forgot was a fart veggie. :x She cleared the room a few times before looking embarasssed and hiding under the dinner table.

It's not such a bad dish after all. I'm still a meatloaf kinda gal.

I'd throw out the leftovers and keep the boyfriend. When a guy laughs over a food disaster, he's a keeper.

lol Thanks Cathy! We're so different in the way we look at life.
He's gotten used to having to put up with my illogical (sp) thinking
It's really nice to have someone fake a smile and eat the creepy food thing put before them lol
