not sure but that poor bird. Half the face is his beak.
I read that they can't bite you hard with them beaks becouse of the langth. I allways liked kissing birds but how would you kiss that kind?

Eating, courtship, distinguishing one from another, and play I think are what is speculated. Scientists are not entirely sure what the purpose is.

They can still bite, but not as hard as a large parrot. You'd be better to watch out for them jabbing you.

I would love to have a toucan someday. When I move into a house.

I've always loved Toucans, even that silly bird on the Fruit Loops box. That colorful beak must make it hard for them to hide in the wild.

They are beautiful. They are bigger than I thought in person. There's a guy at our birdfairs who has one and he brings it sometimes. I'm not sure which kind she is. Her cage is one of those acrylic ones. One day she tried to take a bath in her "small" water dish. It was hilarious. They hop too. I could watch her for hours :)

the pet store near where I live in Montreal has a toucan in a large living space, and will never sell it as a pet, or so they say. it has been there for almost 5 years, and everytime I see it my heart breaks. It is completely alone except when they go in to clean it's area, and although they provide adequate food and enrichment, my feeling is that a toucon should only be seen and kept in the wild. That's just my :2cents:

I always thought toucans were pretty, but never realized how funny they looked until I read the other replies in this thread. They really are goofy looking "banana beaks"! But they still are pretty

These birds are truely amazing! the colors and the beak are just awesome. Hubby says I can't have one though. I am still working on the african gray so one at a time huh?
