I moved some birds around and I found myself with an extra cage that is slightly larger than Echo's current cage. The only difference between Echo's and the new one is the color of the bottom (Echo's is blue. This one is creamy white,) The new one is also a bit larger. Moved everything out of Echo's cage and set it up exactly like the one he was moving out of. Did he notice the difference??? You bet! He's OK with it now but he wasn't sure in the beginning! Darn Abbys...............:rolleyes:
Hahaha You can't expect to pull one on over Echo now, could ya? :lol
Hmm.... I'm not surprised. This is one of the moments that "bird brain" shows to be more then what people thinks. :lol

Pidget, who just moved to a new cage of his own, sends Echo his most heartfelt "Ach, interfering humans, vat kan you do?" squawk. He had this small cage when we got him, about 25 inches high, 23 wide and 14 inches wide, which I guess had been his home since his baby days. He loooved his little house, but I hated how narrow it was and I hated the inadequate dishes. Ever since Piccolo moved in with Pidget I've been meaning to get a better cage. So on Saturday I got a Protege cage from Avian Adventures that is 24" x 22" x 27" and I moved both Piccolo and him in directly. Piccolo is thrilled with her new home since she grew up in our big cage and was used to having more space to roam around, but Pidget, my little Pidget, was dismayed. The first two days he didn't even want to come out of the happy hut and would just peek out balefully at me. He's been warming up to it though, and yesterday he took a huge bath in his water dish, something he couldn't do before in his old cage. I hope he'll learn to like it in the end. Here's hoping Echo warms up to his new cage soon :).

What is it with these birds being so leery of change? :confused: Shy, the human one, sent new cozies to Big Boi and Shy (the bird) and one of them has a yellow color inside. OMG, you'd think it was made of hot coals the way they each behaved when I put it in the cage. Since they don't sleep together anymore, I had to use that one along with the other new one which had a dark interior like they were already used to. I gave Shy the "odd" one and after an hour he gave up and crawled inside! :D It is amazing to me what they notice. Oliver likes nothing out of place and every single night when I put him in his little night cage, he does a complete sweep of his surroundings, turning his little head from side to side, to be sure not one single thing has changed. Even the way the sheet falls over the cage matters to him. :lol I change the white paper towel lining in his cage every day but if I should happen to forget, he stares down at the old poop till I get the point and put a clean p. towel in. They sure do keep you on your toes! :whistle:

My little observer is Piper. If I walk into the birdroom with shoes on, he immediately runs into his cozy and peeks out the other end to look at me. He won't come out until I take off the shoes :rolleyes: Daisy is also very observant. She "alert" calls to everybirdie to let them know what's up. This morning she did this in the kitchen and I was in the birdroom. When I ran back to the kitchen, she was telling me that Olivia was on the floor trying to get under the baseboard under the cabinets. She's a good tattletale :clap:

With Abbys, as long as the color of the cage bars is the same, the size doesn't matter. As Miracle grew, I kept giving her bigger cages but each one was white, like the small carrier I used before she was ready for a cage. Had I given her a cage with black bars, it would have been totally unacceptable. Echo's new cage has silver colored bars with a white bottom. His old one had silver colored bars with an aqua bottom. As of this afternoon, he's completely at home with more space to move! :)

I got lucky with Ditto. His origional cage was a small white cage, and his current cage is blue and more than 4 times the size. The little buggar was all over it while I was putting it together and went in by himself as soon as it was done and I opened the door (that was the first time he ever went in the cage without a fight too :rofl: ). I hope he never figures out that he's really a lovebird and begins acting like one, or I'm in big trouble. :whistle:

I'm sure Echo will be very happy in his new digs. Of course, that is the little bit of time he actually spends in there;)

So on Saturday I got a Protege cage from Avian Adventures that is 24" x 22" x 27"...
I've been back and forth on the Protege for almost a year now :lol I've heard such wonderful things about Avian Adventures cages and thought that the Protege might make for a nice abode for dear Beetle.
I'm interested on your thoughts on this particular cage after Pidget and Piccolo have had some time to adjust.
Linda -- I'm chuckling about Echo noticing the difference! Too funny... I'll be he's a charming little fellow! I hope to see an Abby up close someday. They really are lovely birds!

I can almost hear Echo saying, "What kind of fool do you take me for?!":rofl: Smarter than we can even begin to know, aren't they?

After a few days of having this cage, I really like it. It's very well made, and easy to put together, even for a person as unhandy as myself. The cage does not come with perches of any kind (except for one that is included in its playpen feature) so you have to take care of that yourself. I've ordered some custom made "branch like" perches which should come sometime next week, but in the meantime I'm using rope perches of different sizes, branches, and a lot of swings, to give them plenty of places to rest. It's a lot of space to fill :). I'm still a bit iffy about the locking system for the various doors and openings, which to me seems a bit flimsy. That said, neither Piccolo or Pidget have been escape artists, but I would have hesitated to place my dearly departed Houdini inside, since I have feeling he would have been able to figure out how to open the doors (his name very appropiate :)). As for the birdie reviews;
Piccolo: LOVES IT. A thing of beauty like myself deserves a castle. And the fabulous platinum colour goes so well with my green good looks. One tiny problem, when I get mad with Pidget, he has a lot more space to avoid me.
Pidget: Well, the first two days, I was all, "Where's my little cage? Come back little cage, come back", then the third day, I was like: "All this space, all I want in my old age is a little place, who's gonna keep things clean do you suppose?" But then, I remembered, Mamma does :happy: and puff, that problem was gone. I can get away from Piccolo when she's in one of her "hen moods" and I'm actually getting more excercise just by going from the water bowl to the food bowl.

Thanks for the review... and thank the fids as well!
I just went to the Avian Adventures website and they are selling floor models at a tremendous discount, for anyone who is interested. One of the local bird stores has one on display so before I order, I may take a trip down to get a closer look.
