that watching Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill would be so heartwrenching. I just finished the movie, and after I stopped crying (when the blue conure was killed by a hawk was the final straw for me), I watched the update and saw that the flock had grown in numbers and was thriving even without the daily feedings! Then i went upstairs and hugged Kiwi for quite a while, (until he decided that enough was enough and I should get over it) What a movie!!

Thanks for giving out the ending. I haven't watched it yet and have been looking for the movie for a long time. :lol

My hubby and older son are in San Francisco this week and bless his heart, my hubby went to Telegraph Hill to look for the conures. :) He did not see them but did find a shop that sold the video and bought it for me. I saw it in the theater when it was released and rented it once when the video came out but wanted my own copy.

Elle, this is the second time someone gave out that information on the forum. I think we deleted that thread!

Yep,

It is definitely a box of Kleenex kind of movie. It is even more heart wrenching knowing that it is true:cry:

Janie,

That Howard is a goodun. Don't tell him I said so though;)

I am so sorry >o I didn't even think about what I was writing. You still should watch the movie, as there so much more to see, so many touching moments that make it so worthwhile. Just make sure to have some kleenex!

He probably didn't see them due to the time of day he went. They have a pattern of travel and are only at certain places at certain times.

As for the movie, it was sad but I like to relish the fact the blue conure died free like he chose to be. If I remember correctly, he had lived indoors for a while and wanted to be free and was allowed to. Nature can be sad, but it's not cruel like us humans. The hawk was only trying to stay alive himself.

Yes Laura, I knew it would be unlikely that'd he'd get lucky and see them but he did enjoy his time in that area and found the video for me! :D

I watch nature take place and takes its coarse in my yard constantly and sometimes it is harsh but I have great respect for the hawks and as you said, they gotta eat, too.

Aww, I haven't seen it yet, either. I have trouble finding it around here, so I may have to order it online. But if you guys make it out to be so sad...I'm not sure if I want to!

Lisa, the "sad" is worth the glory of the story. It really is one of the best nature stories I've seen or read about and there are still many wild conures at Telegraph Hill. Just like the wildlife nature in my back yard, some make it and others don't and some die of old age. I do recommend it, highly. I didn't shed a tear but it did have its moments when I thought I might.

Don't know if you have "Blockbusters" but in my neck of the woods, all of their stores carry it. Only one copy but at least they have it.

Never heard of it before...sounds good though. I hate movies where animals die, even if t is of natural deaths. I cried so much during March of the Penguisn, I doubt I'll be able to stand Telegraph Hill. I'll look for it.

Nope, if you couldn't watch March of the Penguins, you'll want to pass on this one. Personally, I loved that one and learned so much. We (hubby and I) just watched it (Parrots, not penguins) tonight. Him for the first time and me for the fourth. A wonderful movie.

I have yet to see the movie but I LOVED the book. Someone gave it to me as a gift last Christmas and I read it in one night.

I've been meaning to get a copy of the DVD... maybe I'll stop by Best Buy on the way home from the office...

I am still yet to see this movie. I pass by it on a regular basis when i am at the video store so i am thinking i will actually have to pick it up and watch it. I hate watching the cruelty's of nature but since my boyfriend is a biologist i hear all about the harshness of nature on a regular basis. Although it doesn't make i any easier it is at least justified so a little easier to take, though not watch. I have been meaning to rent the movie for Kameko because she loves to sing to birds on TV and i would think that she would love to hear this movie.

I think it's the best movie I saw in 2006. I subscribe to Netflix. The neat part of the story is the "after" part, about the guy's pony tail.

I watched this movie last year and I absolutely loved it. It's one of the best documentaries I've seen. I cried too, at some parts in the movie, but I think I smiled more. And the guy, he's really a wonderful character. If I ever get to go to San Francisco, I will definitely go to Telegraph Hill. My :2cents: :)
