Hello.
I am a fairly new lovebird owner, trying to catch up on all the things I need to know.
I have a particular question about birds being alone and background noise. Our lovie spends about 4 to 5 hours per weekday alone. In his previous home, I know he had longer periods alone then that, on a regular basis.
I read somewhere online that lovies don't like complete silence during the day. For other owners out there who only have one bird, what do you do for your lovie when you have to leave them alone?
Should I leave the radio on for him? Or should I buy one of those relaxing, jungle sounds CD's? Do lovebirds like jungle sounds?
By the way great forum!
Hi,
I have 5 birds and still, I leave the tv on to the kids channel. My birds are alone in average 4 to 6 hours a day.
I've left the radio on for them in the past as well as a water fountain. The sound of the water running would cover unusual noises comming from the hallway.
I never bought a jungle CD myself but I think others have. The tv and radio are familar noises that are there when we're home.
I think it comes down to your own preference and your birds.

When the birds are alone in the house, I will usually leave some quiet music on for them. They seem to especially love a CD I have of soothingish classical music with nature sounds (mostly birds.) They really like it. I try to choose something calming, to give them some down time, and usually try to give them some complete quiet at some point in the day. Before I got my second bird I used to worry about it more and would sometimes leave baby videos on for him to watch (He really loved the baby einstein ones.)

When I only had one, Oliver, I always left the TV on the cartoon channel. Now that the three of them are together in their bird room, I don't bother with that but they do have the company of the back yard birds, right outside their room. There are times during the day that they chat, chat, chat with each other or the outside birds but other times, they are so quiet you could hear a pin drop.

Thanks for the advice you guys!
So I guess it's the individual bird's preference. Now we have to see what music my bird likes best...

I'm a little late here, but I turn on classical music or play a CD. They seem to enjoy Charlotte Church and New Age type stuff, too. I don't leave it on all the time, but several hours a day.

Tango's a country bird, I listen to it all the time, I was raised on it, it apparently hasn't had a negative affect on me, and Tango's like a kid, so I figure it won't hurt to raise him on it too. (We also sometimes listen to a little punk, classic rock and light alternative ) He mostly get's country though
