I just picked up Little Chicken and thought she had something stuck to her lower beak...WELL IT WAS NOT!!!!
Her lower beak has a small booboo, I didn't see it yesterday, but I could have missed it. It had bled, but is not activily bleeding. GOODNESS!!!
What should I do now? I was thinking of just phoning the vet and hopefully be allowed (if necessary) to give her remaining doses of Baytril left over from Chubby. I just don't see taking her to the vet and paying the $55.00 for them to tell me to do just that. If dosage is based on weight, I still have the scale from weighing her when I first got her (not that it worked very well).
What next??? ( and I so just jinxed myself by saying that).....:x >:

Chubby will need to finish his doses to make sure there is no infection.
Call your vet and explain the situation and see if you can pick up a prescription for Baytril for Chicken. Your vet may want to see Chicken anyway.
Didn't Chubby get a shot in the vet's office for his beak injury?
Start the Neosporin immediately.
Now, how do you think this injury happened?

Chubby finished her Baytril meds already. There was no shot given at the vets office.
I didn't even remember about neosporin, thank you Kathryn. My brain isn't working tonight, bad Momma.
I am pretty sure it happened at bedtime last night. Little Chicken didn't have an injury during their out of the cage time earlier yesterday. I do remember hearing a little tussle between Chicken and Peepers, this happens sometimes, as Chicken is pretty bossy.
My regular vet isn't open tomorrow, the other one I just used this week is. I will call them tomorrow. Right now, I will put some ointment on Chicken...

Best wishes to Chicken, Susan... You've had a rough go of it lately, chica! I'll be keeping you and the flock in my thoughts. Keep us updated as time allows.

Aw, Susan!
I'm sorry to hear this! I agree with calling your vet rather than just giving meds. I have Baytril here at the house, too, and it's tempting but I always talk to my vet first. Beaks are not clean areas so even small wounds can easily get infected!

With a warm towel, I wiped off Chicken's booboo, and nothing came off. I still put some neosporin(ish) ointment on her. I almost wish something came off, I don't like dried up wounds...makes me wonder how much ointment is getting in there.
She was SO good, and just layed back in my hand, closed her eyes.....she must have thought I was giving her scritches.
It's so small of a injury compared to Chubby's beak. Guess I will just have to see what the vet says. :x

Susan: Welcome to the world of being a multiple lovie owner   . Lovies can get really agressive especially when the group of birds gets larger. Beak injuries in my house come second only to toe biting:x .
I hope all goes well with LC's beak:)

I thought my flock got along well, considering it's been a shorter time. I really should say, they are good at avoiding each other when out together.
Their personalities differ so much.
I actually thought it was going well, since there had not been any toe injuries lately, OH BOY.
Well, I did call the vet on Monday, and spoke to a technician. She conversed with the Vet and I just need to watch Little Chicken's beak and activities. I have touched her wounded area, to clean and apply neosporin and she doesn't fidgit at all, doesn't seem to be in any pain what-so-ever. I have been paying close attention to her behaviour and she seems normal. Any indications that something may be wrong, I have the carrier ready and off I will go to one of the 2 vets available to me. Also, the Tech said that if I need to use the Baytril on Chicken, I just have to give them the weight, and we can figure out dosage. At this point, a few days later, if anything seems 'off', trip to the vet it will be!!
So for right now, Chicken is her little bossy self, as normal as every.
