I know there has been some discussion recently with how and where to bury or keep a pet that has died. This is a pricey option, but definitely interesting!

With my lovebirds, I'd be looking at a tiny diamond :lol

i don't know - the first word that comes to mind is ICK!! I'm not sure how I'd feel about walking around with carbon from my pet around my neck. I hope it is a verrrrrrrrrrry long time before I have to make that type of decision.

creepy, yes... LOL Cool? yeah, until I really start thinking about it. :rotfl:

It's not so creepy for the pets, I think, as it is for the people! I couldn't imagine walking around wearing "Grandma"

I've worked for a funeral home for almost 7 years now. The Life Gems started getting hype around the time I started. We've not had any interest in them yet, most likely due to the pricing.

Many people opt to have their pets cremated. Most funeral homes have access to a more varied selection of small urns (usually called keepsake urns) or memorial jewelry than a veterinarian's office... and from what I've seen on-line, the prices at funeral homes are usually better. Keepsake jewelry is also available: small pendants in which a small portion of cremated remains can be placed. They are quite popular and from what I recall, we have had people order them for their beloved pets.

The Life Gems are certainly an alternative to the traditional burial or increasingly popular cremation option... it's just not one I'm sure I'd opt for myself!

I think I saw an ad for them in a Bird Talk issue (I dunno, I didn't look at the link. My computer's going REALLY slow tonight). I don't think I'd want a life gem....to traditional I guess. My mom insistis on storing them in the freezer.
Yuck!

Does seem like a step up from taxidermy though. I think if anything I'll keep a couple feathers, besides I do that now just to feel like he's with me when I'm not home. Weird huh?

My mom saw an article on that in the paper last year. She says she wants me to make her into a diamond.. It is kinda weird, but kinda neat I think. I'm not sure I'd do it though with my pets.
