Has anyone purchased or reviewed Lovebirds: Owners Manual & Reference Guide by Dirk Van den Abeele?

Here's a link to the book: http://www.avianpublications.com/items/lovebirds/item705.htm.

Here is a link to his site: http://www.agapornis.be/english.htm.

I'm an admitted bibliophile so I'll likely buy it sooner rather than later

Any thoughts?

I have purchased and studied Dirk Van den Abeele's book for about six months now. If you are wanting information on genetics, his book is very informative on the different mutations. There are genetic charts for breeding and outcomes with each mutation.
I got a better price on the book ordering it thru Alibris.com. (you can post a price range you are willing to pay for the book and they will notify you when the book comes up. I purchased mine for $28 for a new book.)

Another book that I like as well, maybe even better is
The Colored Atlas of Lovebirds by Dr. Alessandro D'Angieri. This book also has the mutations well described along with genetic possibilities in breeding. He also teaches you how to write your own genetics charts.

Both books have additional information on breeding problems, diseases, feather structure, diet, etc that I have found to be great resource material.

AND the photos of the mutations are beautiful in both books.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback, Kathryn!

I do have D'Angieri's book -- the genetics bit goes over my head quite a bit but I've enjoyed it just the same.

I didn't think of checking out alibris for Van den Abeele's book -- I may just do that this eve :)

As I said, I'm a book junkie. I don't intend on breeding lovies at any point but I do enjoy reading about them.

I've been waiting for it to come available in North America, as I was not going to pay the prices they wanted for overseas shipping. It's been out for over a year, and frankly I forgot all about it.
