Hi everyone! I have read here many times that a lovebird needs quiet sleep time of 10-12 hrs. How do most of you accomplish this- especially now that it stays light later? I don't have a separate bird room. Jack is in our "greatroom" partially sepatated by a room divider screen. By about 9:00, the lights are dimmer and tv quieter, but soon it will stay light until almost 10:00 pm here and begin to get light again around 5:00 am. I almost hate to put a cover on the cage when paople are still moving about, and I'm paranoid that it will get too stuffy under there for him and he won't be able to breathe. Obviously they make cage covers for a reason, and are probably perfectly safe, but I've been afraid to use one. What do you all do? Thanks

I put my birds to "bed" in a separate, smaller cage in a bedroom. If the lights are going to be on in that room, then I use a dark quilt and cover the top and the sides of the cage, leaving the back (the part facing the wall) at least partially uncovered so that there's air circulation and a little bit of light in there.

When my lovies share common space with us humans, I use a dark sheet to cover them, laundered, with no fabric softener.

I cover Amaretto's cage with a dark blanket and fill in any open spots with dark unused towels. I bought fabric several months ago to make a cover, but never have enough time.

My birds are luck enough to have their own room, but when the time changes and it's lighter outside, I cover the window with a dark blanket. They go right to bed and the cover doesn't come off until I take it off. I still cover their cages as they are use to that. I cover them about half way so they can get a bit of light from the night-light in their room.

When I saw your post title "quiet time" I had to laugh. After I put my birds to bed, I go and watch tv. If I get too loud, Daisy "yells" at me to be quiet. Silly girl thinks she's boss :lol
