Just curious, do anybody's lovies pal up with other pets for the fun of it? I'd like to hear it. Thanks:D.

I made the mistake of letting my lovebird associate with my cat. sparing the details even under strict supervision I almost lost Goofy and got bit by my cat in the process. And my female cat Tootsie was in my lap at the time! To top it off they appeared to coexist perfectly for three months. We've seen where poeple and their pets have crossed this threshold, and although it appears entertaining to to see it may result in grave consequences in which we as humans are unable to fore-see. I myself thought it was a cool thing but after joining this community and learning the risks involved I definitly will NOT venture into that area again.....Michael N' ONELUCKYGOOFY.

Not that I know of. I'm sure that some lovies have become buddies with another parrot species but even that is unusual. Dogs and cats, no way. Even if you have a bird friendly dog or cat, their saliva is deadly dangerous (especially cats) to our lovies. Lovebirds and other pets can safely coexist in the same house but should always be closely supervised and never trusted to be alone with another pet.

I have a 12 year old sheltie and I'm very lucky that she has zero interest in my lovies and they have no interest in her but my dog is always with me, no matter where I go in the house (right now she's at my feet and Oliver is on my shoulder) so I'd don't have to lock her away when they are out but I would never trust the two together and if she should unexpectedly go after one of them, it would be 100% my fault, not hers. They are not "pals." My birds aren't allowed on the floor and my dog isn't allowed on my shoulder! ;)

I've had several dogs and only one would actually go after my birds, given the opportunity. I currently have a young Corgi and the only time he's interested in my birds is when they take flight! Corgis are bred for herding and that's the instinct that kicks in with Sam when he sees them fly. However, do I trust him enough to leave any of my birds out when I'm not around to supervise???? Not on your life!! It only takes one incident to become an accident and I'm just not willing to take that chance. My larger parrots all associate with each other but I tend to keep my birds and my dog away from each other!

Not a chance! Half my lovies don't even get along with each other. I would never risk exposing any of my birds to my cat or dogs. In fact, the dogs and cat aren't allowed in the bird room, under any circumstances.
