Is there a disinfectant I can use besides the bleach and water solution? I'm making a bird gym and also I'm making large perches and can't soak them in the sink.
I remember they used pink stuff at the wildlife rehab but I think it was expensive. So... Any cheap disinfectants?
You've already mentioned that GSE is too expensive for you. I don't know of anything cheaper than bleach. Sorry.
You could use a spray bottle and spray the perches or you can soak them in the tub.
Out of curiousity, if someone else comes up with a cheap disinfectant product and you can't use the sink, how are you going to disinfect?

Bleach is by far the cheapest disinfectant.
Make sure you do lots of rinsing though, which means you'll need a sink or tub, or even an outside hose.
Why can't you soak them in a sink?

The pink stuff was probably Betadine, and it is expensive. GSE works well for spraying, but the initial investment may be high also. It lasts a long time though.
Are you unable to use the sink because the perches are too big? If so, use the bathtub. You won't need to fill it up too much and a tiny bit of bleach will do the trick. If you can't soak the perches, rub them with bleach and water using a rag, and let them dry completely before leting birdies play on the gym or perches. Bleach's harmful fumes dissipate when dry.

I was thinking I could rub the branches down with something. The bathtub idea works.

Wait; rubbing alcohol?

Eia, rubbing alchohol is not really a disinfectant. Nurses swab it on you mostly to rid an injection site of dead skin before a shot. It doesn't really kill bacteria all that well.

Bleach is extremely cheap. You mix only needs to be 10% bleach and the rest is water. Another soaking option would be a wallpaper wetting tray. Spraying is also very easy but you should also scrub if you're spraying. Drying outside in the sun is also a good thing.
