Hi, I got a new lovebird named Zelda who is eventually hopefully going to be Link's boyfriend! Their cages were set side by side for a few days, then I let them out together. First visit, they preened each other no stop. Second visit, they preened then Link seemed to remember me, so he hopped down to my shoulder. Well, Zelda eventually followed and at first Link was ok, then she became a bully, I gave them strips of paper to shred but they fought over it. Now, it's the same thing when I let them out together, they are fine at first then Link gets jealous of Zelda being near me! Should I keep letting them out togeter until Link gets pi**sy? I try to let each one out seperatly before I get them both out together.

I like the names, and the gender reversal!:p I would let them continue to get used to each other. It sounds like Link really enjoys Zelda, but since you're still her "mate" then she's protecting you! Apparently only shes allowed to show love to somebody else!:wink:
Course I only have one lovie, who I get the feeling would do the same if I got another birdie. I'm interested in seeing what you do and how it all pans out!

Well the gender reversal wasn't intentional!!! Link, I was hoping was a boy, turns out she's a she. Zelda is a boy, I know, it confuses the the heck out of me!!! Yes, Link seems to guard Zelda from me! It's so funny, because they are opposite birds! Link will sit for hours on me but will bite the **** out of me, but Zelda who is new and I bought him from a breeder, is shy of me but won't bite me...total opposites!!!!!!

How long have you had Zelda? Did you quarantine Zelda before introducing s/he to Link?

No, I didn't quarantine Zelda, I bought him from a very reputable breeder, and it was my decision because I saw all her birds and they were all healthy and happy! So, please don,t lecture on the quarantine...I'm asking about what I should do now?

My birds usually get like that if Romeo wants me to himself. I usually take one out at a time and give them alone time and then i bring both of them out. Giving them paper could make the fighting worse if one or both are females. As of the quaratine I wasn't lecturing you I was just simply asking a question. Try giving each one alone time before letting both of them out and find out if that helps.

I'm sorry, I got defensive, because I know the "quarantine" rule and knew someone was gonna ask it!!! I do try to get each bird out without each other. Unfortunatly Zelda does not know me, so he will kinda hop all over. If Link is out of the cage he is kinda like a lost puppy and follows and does whatever Link does, but like I said Link I think is jealous if he gets near me!!!

I would try taking them out separately and then together and when Link gets pi**y, you'll be there to be sure no harm is done to Zelda. They may very well work this out in time and become lovebirds who do love each other. :D One of my three, Shy, is very jealous if either of the other two tries to get to me when he is on me. Plus, he'll knock one of them off of me just to show them he's boss. He is NOT the boss, Oliver is but Shy doesn't understand that. ;) He is a great bird and I adore him but when I'm in the mix, in the middle of things, Shy is very jealous and doesn't like to share my body parts with Oliver or Big Boi. If Shy gets too bossy, I put him in his cage and allow the other two out. Sometimes that makes him a little nicer when he gets out but not always.
Are Link and Zelda names from Super Mario? That sounds so familiar but I'm too old to be sure. My kids got their first Nintendo about 18 or 19 years ago and my memory is foggy.

No, Link and Zelda are not from Super Mario, when I got Link my 13 yr old son just got his new WII game system and got the new Zelda game. At the time we thought Link(who is a player in the game) was a "he" so but finding out other....Now, In the game Zelda is a she and Link is a he...it gets a little confusing!! But, I can't name anything else!!

Sounds like the best thing is to make sure they don't harm one another. It will be interesting to see the outcome. I hope your efforts pay off with Link and Zelda eventually accepting each other without harm otherwise it will be constant scrutiny by you. I wonder who thinks their in charge here, you, or Link as hierarchy issues can be less defined among captive birds. Regardless, its possible Zelda will always end up on the back burner and may need a little extra individual attention outside the company of Link. Sounds like you have it handled already, unfortunately the outcome we can't predict.......Michael N' Goof...

I asked my son and he said that after Mario Brothers, the next big Nintendo hit was Zelda and then.....Link! I stopped playing Nintendo after the first Mario game....too hard for me to keep up! :D

OMG, you're a BABY!!!!! It never occurred to me to ask you how old you are. You know how it goes, the older we get, the more we consider all adults to be our age! :D So now that I know you are young enough to be my kid, I can tell you what to do, right? That shouldn't be a problem since I think we do just about all of the same things!
Dave,
Ducky, I could be you GRANDmother! :D
