While hunting down leather strips and birdie safe rope for a play area for Finny and Reilly, my husband and I stopped in a bird store a few towns over. I was amazed at the variety of birds they had and the knowledge and care that the employees had. All was going great as we found our leather strips then I hear a "Hello". I turned around an it was a orange winged Amazon saying Hello to me. I said Hello back and I am telling you we bonded right there on the spot! Of course I had to ask to interact with him/her at this point. So I disinfected my hands and the lady helping us got him/her out of their cage. I asked Bailey (this is his/her name) (they have not sexed the bird who is 3 years old) to step up. Bailey stepped up right away and then got on my shoulder. He then gave me a litttle nibble (lovingly) on my ear and lowered his head so I could rub his neck. He told me "wow" and that he was Silly! I am sooooo in love with this bird now. I really wanted to take him home right then..... but then they said the price an hubby got really pale..... and so he still lives at the store :(

I am not giving up just yet and was wondering if anyone on here has any good info on orange wing amazons. I had never heard of them until today. I am also wondering if I talk hubby into this if Finny and Reilly will get jealous. I dont want them to get their feelings hurt. I am assuming they would have to live in seperate rooms even after quaranteen.

Anyway, any and all infor is as always greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance

Cindy,

Amazons are amazing!!!! I also love them, and they are such intelligent birds. This is the only other bird I would ever consider adding to my flock, and I fully intend to do so. Shhhhhh, don't tell my hubby;)

Finny and Riley may indeed be jealous at first, as Bailey would require allot of your time. You would have to balance your time with them, but it's not so hard. I rotate my birds time out every day. Yes, it seems like a chore some days, but they give me so much love, it's worth it:)

Let us know if Bailey finds his/her way to your house:happy:

Cindy, if a bird spoke to me and then interacted with me, I would be a goner! Seriously, it is the reason I don't touch a bird in a pet store.....I'm horrified that I'll end up taking it home. Amazons are just incredible birds. I'm going to Google "Orange Wing" right now to have a look.

That would be a great Mother's Day gift! ;)
