View Full Version : Digital camera roll call...

I need to jump into 2007 and get myself equipped with a REAL digital camera.
I do have a silly little Pentax pocket digi-cam which is OK but meh... I need something BETTER. As much as it pains me to say this I might be looking to replace my Minolta film SLR with a digital SLR. I've read rave reviews about the Nikon D40 and am hoping to check them out at the local camera shop soon.
I'm just curious to see what my lovie-lovin' friends are using - compacts, SLR, what-have-you.
Thx!

I spent a long time researching all the cameras available, and decieded on the Canon Powershot A630. It has alot of features i still haven't figured out, but i have been very pleased with it so far.

yep - a Nikon D70 for us too! it's a bit more pricey than some but it is a great camera. you can also check out the new D40? (it's got a letter attached but I can't remember what it is??) - it's probably a little cheaper, but has many of the same functions. :)
Love the pics Dave - Ditto is one gorgeous lovie - I just love his coloring!

The D40 is a great camera too. It may lack a few of the more advanced features of the D70 but most people (including me) probably won't use those anyway. The biggest difference is the type of memory card used. The D40 uses SD cards and the D70 uses compact flash. SD is cheaper but also slower than compact flash. So unless you're planning on taking picures really quickly a D40 is a great camera.
They're both 6.1 megapixels and use the same lenses as the nikon 35mm slr.
Ditto loves the camera. He's a total camera hog. I think he believes he's Paris Hilton (but better looking  ).

I use the Canon 350D (XT in the U.S), which has gone down in price dramatically since the 400D (XTi) was released. I've had it for a year and a half now, and it's produced some lovely shots. :) Quality wise, a compact cannot come close to a DSLR. Photography is a hobby of mine and I'd be lost without my Canon!

I think I am a little behind the times as well... I am using a kodak Easyshare DX7440 but I like it because it has the little dock where I can print the pictures that I want to print right a way on the little dock thing.
I am looking to purchase a video camera so any input on the video cameras would be great! We looked a couple of days ago and it seems the newer ones are either mini dvd or hard drive ones. The sales person recommended the Hard drive kind but I think they work on commision and those were more expensive. So any of you that have video cameras please tell us which you prefer :-)
Many thanks as always...

I bought this camera last summer. I love it, although, as an avid photographer I wish I had gone higher.
It's a FujiFilm S5200:

Emery. Your pictures effect on my lovebird Goofy was as follows, kissies for the first two, not including the camera of course, and NO kissies for the last two! I tell ya, he knows his stuff!......Michael N' Goof

Yeah... the Nikon D70? That's my DREAM camera :D However, I'd like to have some money to actually leftover GO SOMEWHERE to take photos :p The Nikon D40 is probably my first choice for a digital SLR.
You do bring up a good point though, Dave -- I do take a lot of photos at horse shows so maybe I should reconsider investing in the D70...
Keep 'em coming, guys!

The D70 has been replaced with the D80 now.
My dream camera would be the D2x but I'm not spending $5000 on a camera I don't know how to use. I'd settle for the D200.

Noooo, I've still got the D70. Nikon however no longer sells it. They have the D80 now. Besides if I ever replace the D70, you'll have to fight my dad for it. He's been trying to talk me in to buying the D200 and selling him the D70 for about 6 months now.

Shucks... Ahat is it w/ Dad's trying to take their children's toys? No fair! I think that I could probably come by a used one on keh.com, though.
I'm not in any hurry to get a digi-cam, be it a dSLR or otherwise. There's a really nice, family-owned camera store in town that I've bought various lenses from over the last few years. I plan to play around with what they have there before I decide.
