Well....
I took Kirby for a car ride just because.
And I went out and bought him a car carrier (it's a padded smaller one with bears on it) but decided to bring him with me.
So, I shoved him in my shirt, ran out to the boyfriend's car (it's air conditioned  ) and shut the doors and voila, Kirby sat on my shoulder while driving and had a GRANDE OLD TIME!!
yes, i know he could've bit me blah blah blah but it was well worth the funny looks and fun of having him hang off the CLOSED sun roof admiring the sky.
I wish I could've video tape it, buttttt i was sort of driving hahahaha.

Haha... I have taken Daisy for car rides before. At first she was scared and screamed but now she just sits there watching everything around her. :)
Just think about this.... what if you get in a vehicle accident and the airbags deploy.... people can have chemical burns because of that. Just imagine what it will do to your bird.
What if in the accident the side window breaks. Imagine your bird shattered and cut by glass. Also imagine your bird fly out the window terrified by the events that just happened. That is if it survives the impact.
Birds are only safe in a vehicle when they are in a proper carrier. And then again....
Just my :2cents:

I agree, Elle
Whenever my birds ride in my car, they are in an airline approved carrier and secured by a seat belt. For fear of an accident, I have food/water dishes and a bottle of water with me but I don't have dishes in the carrier. Knowing the chemicals released by air bag deployment, I also cover the carrier so that the powder cannot get to the birds inside and cause possible fatal injuries. I've never been in an accident with birds in my car but a near miss showed me every flaw in what I had been doing. I was very lucky that Echo was not injured when his carrier was thrown off the seat and under the dashboard as a result of a quick stop! :(

Daisy has a carrier in which she does sit in with the seatbelt around it. I bring millet and bottle water. I know there is no way of really avoiding a accident but she is as safe as she can get.

I know... but it's the only ride he'll pretty much ever have because I wanted to see how he'd react... but now... he'll enjoy the ride on our heads in the house haha
I live somewhat in the country.. so his ride to the store where I bought him from was like 10 minutes or so.. yes i know.. what if...
BUt the only ride now (and let's hope I don't have to take it) would be to the vets!!
I can't really live my life full of what if's, it's just like owning my horse, what if i took him for a ride down the road and a car hit me... doesnt hurt to try!!
But yes.. no more car rides unless he's in his carrier.. WHICH HE HATES haha

My vet told me that I should never take my birds in the car unless they were in secure carriers. I haven't and wouldn't. Glad Kirby is OK and that you didn't have to make a sudden stop.
