I encourage everyone to do whatever they can to help.

I find it interesting that in the city, areas that are "let go" and grow over, become automatic habitats. Homes are torn down, no on mows the grass (which has become a mixture of weeds and seeds), and you wind up with more greenery and natural habitats. Unfortunately they are also habitats for mice and rats, but as we've observed before, hawks live everywhere ...

Interesting article, Tim. Someone posted that same link on my wild bird forum today, too. I've seen no decline of any species in my back yard (yet) but then again, living here is like living in a Hitchcock movie!

That is very sad news. When i was growing up, i loved to hear the whipporwhill . It has been years since iv'e heard one and miss them so much. You would think since we live in a cove with mountains surrounding us they would be plentiful. I don't know what's happened to them.
I could'nt tell you when the last time was i heard a Bobwhite either.

Correction on the Bobwhite, I went a littlewhile ago with my husband to check on the cows, and, i heard a Bobwhite (LOL)

We usually have 6-8 hummingbirds through the summer. This summer, I see only two. We have a family of cardinels in the backyard, but the scissor-tail swallows did not nest above our front door post like last year.
I feel like there are far fewer birds overall this year. And I miss my hummingbirds :(
