Pet Store Lovies

Well, I can officially say that I am SO GREATFUL that I had the patience to find a hand raised Lovie instead of buying a store one.

I went to a HUGE petstore here in Victoria the other day and there were two lovebirds. One was a gorgeous deep green peach faced and the other was a Kirby look-alike.

The peachfaced had a super over grown beak as well as lonnnggg toenails, the Kirby look-alike had an ingrown toenail which wasn't infected, you just couldn't see the toenail it just looked like a stubby finger.


I just can't believe how the lovies there get treated like that.. and how they become that way. It's brutal >:

A super long beak and long toenails could be a sign of a liver condition, or other health related problem. As for the ingrown toenail, perhaps birdie just lost the nail in an accident of fight. I have two birdies that have no nail, and their toes look just like you describe.

A hand socialized lovie is the greatest. Man, it takes forever to tame them once they are wild. Oftentimes it just can't be done at all.

I'm glad you are having a rewarding relationship with Kirby. He sounds like a real sweetie.
