View Full Version : How do you towel a finger ripper?? (mostly a rant)

Wow do clipping wings make a BIG difference. I currently am only letting out my non-egg having birds....equalling 4 lovebirds.

All were fully flighted until today. Dayzee and Woogie, although somewhat hand shy, will let me clip their flights without a big fight. Their attitude changed right away. The 4 allowed out would torment the other 3 cages of birds.....Dayz and Woog now are exploring and not tormenting.

Problem: I could clip Chicken, with lots of protest (very vocal birdie) but Peepers....GOODNESS!! She is a biter, ripper of flesh. Should I towel her and try the clip....not sure if that would work? Any suggestions? I don't want to clip only Chicken, because she will be left behind, and she only gets out of cage time with Peepers, who she loves.

I have become an expert at getting Peepers back in her cage....but I don't think it is improving her loving of me.... I use a handkerchief, a sponge bob square pants one....what a finger saver! This is also because I don't leave cages open when they are out, because Peeps and Chicken will try and move back in together....or squat in another couples cage....those little TROUBLE MAKERS!!

Why are lovebirds such TORMENTORS!!??? I can't wait until eggie time is FINISHED....then they can all come out and be equal!! I am really starting to believe that lovies are the bullies of the animal world! (but I still love them).

I have a couple of finger removers myself, but I don't do the towel thing. I find it very difficult to judge the pressure you are putting on birdie. What I use is tight cotton/wool gloves. You know the ones that look like they are the size a five year old could wear, but they stretch out to cover an adult's hand. Birdie is usually so stunned by the gloves that they don't bite, and even if they do, it doesn't really hurt at all. I find the gloves work better when it comes to flipping birdie over to do the other side. Unless you don't mind your birdies flying in circles for a few months.

Thanks Shy....I didn't even think of gloves....brain not working. I have many pairs like you describe! Peepers is a good biter, she actually pants while she bites....trying as hard as she can! I still love her, I call her my ADD birdie...she is CRAZY!!
