My brother told me that runts are the oddball in the bunch and mine is well thought to be one. She seemed to be the most curious of all the babies in the pet shop, considering she chose me to get her. I can see that she loves to explore. She has her times where she just doesn't wanna deal with anybody and times where she wants attention. Considering everyone plays with her, she has enough company to keep her happy. I know some do better with mates but she seems to be a member of the family. I gotta tell you, with my other lovebirds, it takes a while for them to play with the new toys I put in the cage and when they do play, it's only for around 5 minutes and them abandoned. My baby plays with anything and can be entertained for hours! I found a nice little leaf, around the size of a quarter and put it in her cage and she kept to it for a good 30 minutes throwing it around, puncing holes, and going under it. I couldn't believe how easily content she was. Maybe it's all normal and my others are just weird and maybe not. I hope some of you guys could share info or experiences with runts.

When I first got birds, I got four from the same breeder. Three of them were green series birds and one was blue. That poor little blue was not liked by anyone, and she would amuse herself for hours playing by herself. She did realize that the other birds didn't like her, and I could see that it bothered her a lot. But she would try to keep herself busy with her playing, off to the side, and she became quite the little clown.
One day, she bit Aedon on the toe, HARD, and Aedon cried mercilessly. From that day on, Aedon seemed to enjoy including Nereus in the playtimes. Aedon and Danae were very close, so Danae took to Nereus playing with the group as well. Today, Nereus, my lonely little blue, is the most popular birdie in the henhouse. Even little Dea has been making google eyes at her as of late.

My first lovie was a runt :). He was the happiest, funniest lovie. He sang and danced and could play for hours with the simplest toys. He was also super brave. I'll never forget the first time I saw him. He was the only green mask in a cage full of blue masks, and yet there he was, gallantly defending a bell from the other, much larger lovies. . He just stole my heart :).
Sadly, he died about a year afterwards from a congenital heart defect. I was devastated but grateful that I had been lucky enough to have him in my life. He was my little angel, and I'll never forget him :).
