Does any one know if to become an avian vet if any other schooling is required beyond basic vet school? If no one knows, do you know of an avian vet I could email and ask? Thanks.

Birds are not specifically cover in school unless they take avian medicine a an elective. Taking the course doesn't give a vet their avian certification. To be avian certified a vet must write his own reseach paper and maintain a bird patient base. It means they need to see so many bird patient a year.

Certification may vary from one area/ country to another. This is what is required in my side of the country. :)

Ok thank you. I was wondering because I'm going to school right now for pre-vet and I have been thinking about becoming either an Avian or an Equine Vet or maybe both

check out this site

http://www.medicalcenterforbirds.com/site/view/96608_Home.pml

this is the website for Baby's vet which also gives a detailed Cirriculum Vitae of all the Vets there. Their email addresses are also there and I'm sure they would be glad to answer any questions you may have about becoming an avian vet.

By the way, this Avian vet practice is absoultely wonderful, all the staff, everything and everybody!
