I've had Edger for about 2 months now. He has always been a bit nippy and seems to have an unusually sharp beak (which results in me bleeding alot even when he is not biting hard). This morning around 6am I woke up and went over to his cage to take him out and come to my bed with me. He has always been a bold fearless bird that was very stubborn and did what he wanted. So I lowered his cage a bit and tempted him with corn til he finally learned the step up command.

He has let me rub underneath his wings before but what he did this morning was unbelievable. I think he has total trust in me now. I was rubbing his face cheeks head back and belly for an hour and a half. He even rolled over to his side which is something he has never done before. He also let me massage his wings and spread them out and rub them.

Has anyone else ever been able to do these things with their lovebird. I am just curious how common it is because I was really surprised at how sweet Edgar has all the sudden become. I think he realizes I am the head of the flock now and that I will protect him so there is no more need for his aggressive protective (of me) behavior.

Yes! I can do that with all three of mine! :D One of them especially loves it because the other two preen each other but not him so *I* am his official preener. :D

I would agree that your lovie is learning to trust you. It's funny how it sort of "clicks" for them one day. This person loves me, will always take care of me and I'm gonna trust him/her! Yippee!

This is wonderful news! You have the trust relationship that you've worked so hard to achieve and I'm sure it feels great! You may find that he occasionally gets aggressive towards hands, although not necessarily, but for the most part, you're OK in Edgar's book!

Actually, he sees you as a member of his flock rather than the head of it. Flock members take care of each other and that's what you are doing for him! :)
