Mutations

Today i was showing one of my friends a picture of Romeo and Juliet and she told me that she used to have a lovebird when she was little. When i asked what it looked like she said it looked like mine but instead of having a peach face it was blue with a green body. Is this a true mutation or is she remembering it as a different color then what it was. Maybe it could have been a different kind of bird. Thanks for you time.


P.S (if it is a lovebird and a true mutation, i would love to see a picture because it sound pretty).



P.S.S what is the difference between american cinnamon and normal peachie? i have been looking at the pictures and they look the same to me but what do i know. lol

I've never heard of a PF mutation that has a blue face, but I'm not an expert by any means :) . I guess it could be some other type of agapornis , but I was actually wondering from her description if she could have had a parrotlet, you think? They are smaller than a PF but if it was years ago, she could have forgotten it's actual size. If she has any pictures it would really be interesting to see.

Gloria -- that's definitely a possibility!

After reading your response I thought about the grey-cheeked parakeet, one of the brotogeris parakeets of South America. They are a bit larger than a lovebird and have a longer tail but the grey-cheeked 'keets have blue on their head (along with the grey cheeks, of course) and a green body.

Here's a link with a photo: http://www.centralpets.com/animals/birds/parrots/prt1400.html I could see how someone might confuse a lovebird w/ a broto 'keet if they aren't that knowledgeable about various parrot species.

Grey cheeks in particular were very popular and were often referred to as pocket parrots due to their fairly small size (not as tiny as a p-let or lovie but smaller than an Amazon or some conure species). Before CITES they were imported into the US easily but since then, it has been discovered that they are not easy to breed :( A shame as they are adorable little parrots.

Oh, I hope that we get to the bottom of this mystery! I love a good challenge...

thanks guys for the help. i had her to look at the albs library and she said that it sorta looked like the madasagar lovie but she didn't think that was it. I will send her that link about the grey-cheeked parrot. I am having her to ask her mom if she remember what kind she had. I also really want to find out what she had. I'm glad that i found a fellow bird lover in my group of friends. She got so excited when i told her i had lovies and said that she wished she could own a bird again. But we have to wait until college is over or until we get out of the dorms.
