Hello,
I have 6 lovebirds inside a single cage and 4 of them have bonded pairs with each other.
Now i am planning to tame them, So should i separate one pair from them to tame?

Because there's no way to tell which of your birds will respond to your attempts at taming, it would be best to separate them into the bonded pairs. You mentioned two pairs always stick together. If there are two birds that are left that don't appear to stay together, provided they get along you can put them into a third cage. Should any of these birds mate while they are all in one cage, they may become territorial and possibly cause injury or death. After separating them you have a better chance at deciding which birds respond best to your taming efforts by working with them individually or by pairs without interference by the others. Please keep us posted :) ..................Michael and Goofy

If you separate one pair from the cage all 3 pairs have to be in separate cages. The rule for pairs in cages is either one pair or 3 pairs or more. With 2 pairs in a cage it can result in one pair picking on the other.

I don't have any extra cage this is why is it making me a problem! :(
So what should i do now?
How i'll tame them if i'll keep all of them in a same cage?

Then chances of taming any of these birds are next to impossible.
Sorry!

Sherytiger. You had indicated in your thread "advice needed" 9/16/07 #17 that you had three separate parts to your cage. Is it possible to separate them that way even though its all part of one cage?...........Michael and Goofy

Yes i have 1 cage which have 3 parts, but 2 cages are reserved ! :(
In one, all of the lovebirdies are there.
And in other slot, i've placed a pair of green parrot!
Now temme what to do next?

From my point of view, there is very little you can do next, given the situation!! if you have a pair of birds in one compartment, and your lovies are in another, is the other one in use, or can it be used for the lovies?
Honestly though, I agree with Kim, under these conditions, i don't think taming them will be possible at all. Either you get extra cages and separate them to try to tame them, or you leave them just as they are.

I have only 1 cage spot left and i can't bring more as my parent's won't allow me so!

Then your chances of taming are not good I am sorry to say. You can not separate just one pair out. Because they 4 birds left in the other cage could starting fighting and harm possibly kill each other. Maybe you can explain to your parents that you only need to get one more cage. Explain to them that that it will only be one cage.Maybe you can get a single cage and move your green parrots to it and the lovebirds can be placed in the 3 level cage?

Hi Sherytiger. Your position regarding the care and possible taming of these birds is a difficult one. It is unusual for most poeple to aquire so many birds at one time. Because of the lack of history surrounding your birds, such as age, whether or not their breeding pairs, and so on, adds to the difficulty in providing options for you. Like Dani mentioned, given the situation your in, unless you can provide necessary housing for all should you separate them, you really have no choice but to leave them as they are. And I agree with Steph that leaving two pairs together could be a disaster. Taming therefore would be next to impossible while they are all housed together. We are wondering, are the two green parrots lovebirds, or are they a different species? Is it possible to show us a few pictures of them all? We would love to see them :) ....................Michael and Goofy

Yes possibly, That could also be fine.
I'll surely think about it!
