Luna is 3 mths old and last night I was thinking about it and she isn't really active, or at least she isn't when I am around. I know that I need to get a well-bird exam and I plan to call today about it, but I am just wondering. Do you think she wears herself out during the day and when I get home to spend time with her she is just tired? She usually cuddles up by my neck and just sits there. I am not sure if she is sleeping, but she makes this cute little clicking noise. I just wonder if it is normal for babies to be less active because everything I have read says they are curious little birds and very active.

I can't speak for the activity level, but that clicking sound you're hearing is because she is quite content and very happy.;)

At age 3 months, Luna is still essentially a baby. Babies love/need to have "social" time and she does not have other lovebirds to fill that need. Hence, you are the one who she looks to to fulfill that need. I agree that the clicking sound means sheer contentment/happiness.

You will find that Luna will become more independent as she gets older and is more familiar with you and her new home. Everything is still strange and, being young, she needs time to feel safe enough to want to explore. Trust me. It will happen and you will want her to go back to wanting to stay just with you! :)

Linda, thank you, you have eased my mind. I was worried that she was depressed or something. When I put her back in her cage she screeches at me for a second and then gets really quiet. If I go back to get her later, I have to convince her to come out. It's like she says to me "you better come get me out now, or I'm not coming out again later" being stubborn. It's all on her terms. There is so much to learn! You guys will have to be patient with me, I have no clue. >o

You've got it! That pretty much sums up life with a lovebird. ;)

How long have you had Luna? Estrella is 3 months and 9 days old, and VERY active. However, the first few weeks we had him he slept a lot, and stayed in his cage most of the time (as he wouldn't come out) and when he was out he stayed in my hair or cuddled near my neck.
But now that he has bonded more to me, I can't leave the room without him following (either by waddling up to me or flying!) So I would just give it some time, it sounds to me like Luna is just getting acclimated to her new surroundings!

I agree with Linda, soon you'll just be wishing for a moment of peace!

I've only had her for a little more than a week. I learned over the weekend that she is quite a bit more active during the day. I get home in the evening and she either wants out to sit on my shoulder or she is grumpy and just wants to be left alone. :x She is very cute, though, I just bought her a swing and she just loves it. I agree, she is just getting used to her surroundings. I can already see her changing. :clap

You will find that when youre not home, lovies do tend to be more active. Both mine seem to have never ending energy which unfortunately lasts well past their bed time :x

I think with any baby animal they always wear themselves out during the day and tend to crash early evening and either get grumpy or sleepy.

Yeah, I am figuring that out. I was just worried because even though lovebirds are such small creatures, I just never realized they were so sensative to everything. I was just worried that she was sick or something. I jumped the gun, of course, which I am happy about cause I don't want to deal with a sick bird, I already have so much to learn about a healthy one.:)

I agree and when I first got Estrella I posted questions constantly! Actually, I still do....but it just means that you are a good, and concerned mama!

I'm glad!! I was worried people would get sick of me because I know everything I have asked about has probably already been discussed! I'm just too lazy to search for it  :b_party: (i know the party smileys don't have anything to do with my post, but i just noticed them and they are so... cute. reminds me of the little 7up guy)
