Thread: how do you tell your birds apart?

Default how do you tell your birds apart?

I have 3 babies right now, they are only a little over a week old now. But when they get bigger how will I be able to tell them apart. Is it likely that they will all look just alike. I think it will be like a mama with identical twins, you can just tell. What do others do?

    Thanks

You will find that each bird has a distinct personality and you will just "know" who is who! You will most likely find slight color differences, as well.

Yep, personality, the way they move, etc. With babies, I once had a clutch with 2 Medium Seagreen Violet boys, but one was much more blue than the other so I could tell them apart by just looking at them. Also with babies, I band them which is nice for telling 2 of the same mutations apart.

Right now I have 2 female Lutinos in my bird room. I can tell them apart though because Re, a baby I raised, is very outgoing and has a brighter face. Sunny, a rescue, is much more reserved, not tame and she has a lighter face and a more sleek look (almost like she is always keeping an eye out for danger).

Aside from personality, and color, there may also be a size difference, or with my GCC's one has a pink toe. The main way I would know mine apart though is the bite. Yep, the bite, while one may just nip a little, the other will bite. While two may bite, the bite is different also. Yep, you will know, a Mama always knows
