    Default Update on my flock

    Hello everyone,

It's been a while since I've been able to log in, so I thought I would write a short update of my flock. There's been some changes: Pontus, my hen, has moved in with Pidget, my male lovie who's afraid of other birds. I decided to do this because Pontus was caged with three males: her mate Nemo, their foster son Elmo, and my blue lovie Bubblan, and being the only hen got her too much attention. She was constantly trying to build nests on the bottom of the cage, and she had even stopped eating by herself, since all the males were always gacking to her. She was very skinny and her feathers were looking pretty ragged.

The move meant sadly that I had to break up Piccolo and Pidget, but I didn't want to risk the two hens fighting with each other. Piccolo is now housed with Bubblan in a separate cage. They both get along well, and have always been good buddies.

This means that I have three cages now: one with Nemo and Elmo, one with Piccolo and Bubblan and one with Pontus and Pidget. So far, things have been working out. Pontus is back to eating by herself, has stopped being nesty, and looks a hundred times better than she did a month ago. Pidget is slowly getting over his fear of Pontus. Pontus has been trying to make him preen her, and is starting to win him over. Yesterday they were sitting together side by side . My Nemo is not that happy, but I really couldn't find any other solution. Pidget would never be able to live with one of the other males, and at least Elmo and Nemo have always loved each other. They had been fighting a lot more over Pontus, but now things are almost back to normal.

It's been a very noisy month to say the least, with lots of grumpy birds. And three cages means a LOT of work . Hopefully the arrangement will last.

Big hugs to all my board friends and scritches to all birdies .

    Gloria

PS I had not been around for a long time, and I was very saddened by the amount of new posts at the In Loving Memory. It has been a hard time at the board, and I'm truly sorry . (((HUGS))) to all of you.

Gloria: Thanks for the update! We have missed you and your flock and it's great to hear things have been going well for them despite the changes. You are lucky your flock rearrangment is going so well. I've never had such luck .

I know what you mean about all the losses. I hope we have passed this rough patch and everybirdy stays happy and healthy.

Hey Gloria! You have been missed and I was delighted to see a post from you. What a great update, too! I'm sure that adjustment period for your lovies was hard in the beginning (especially for their momma!) but am so glad to hear that it's working out well!

    Hi Gloria,

I'm late as usual - I rarely log in on the weekends. Anyway, it's great to hear from you! Birdie adjustments are hard on everyone and hopefully they will work out for the best. Keep in touch!
